Who is Liz?
- Name: Liz Kennedy
- Job Title: Psychologist
- Qualifications: Bachelor of Psychology (Honours); Master of Educational and Developmental Psychology
- Professional quote/Personal motto: Don’t worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss when you don’t even try.
Background/Experience:
Liz originally worked in youth mentoring, which involved working closely with disadvantaged and disengaged youth. She has also provided tutoring services to students and worked as a Learning Support Officer. Liz has ample experience in both public and private education sectors, providing consultation to teachers and support services for students. These experiences really show how longstanding her passion for working within the field of education has been, which Liz believes is due to her family members all being educators.
Why did you choose this profession?
‘I have always desired to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. This passion coincidently led me to the field of psychology, which turned out to be a discipline that allows me to use my strengths to accomplish this mission. Working as a psychologist suits my nature, as I care deeply about the various challenges that humans face, and I can apply my creativity and problem-solving skills to tackle complex issues (and what’s more complex to unpack than the human mind?). No two humans are ever identical; a fact which keeps me on my toes and makes every day unique (if you ever happen to find two – let me know!)’
Working at RBP
At RBP, Liz provides assessment and counselling services to students with various educational, developmental, social-emotional, and/or behavioural needs. She enjoys taking clients (whether they be students, parents or teachers) on a journey to better understand why certain things in life are harder than they might otherwise be. Liz acknowledges that helping clients come to these new insights is a real privilege in the work that she does at RBP.
Liz loves working with incredibly knowledgeable colleagues at RBP, who possess such widespread expertise, and inspire her to be the best psychologist she can be. She is also grateful for the variety of high quality resources available at RBP, which she can use in her practice to truly paint a comprehensive picture of each client’s unique areas of strength and challenge.
Liz’s Favourite Things!
- Book –The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak
