With the winter holidays fast approaching it seems like that time again for parents to start fretting about how to fill the days, how to keep the kids busy and active and how to spend some quality family time together.
Well fret no more, Raise the Bar is coming to the rescue with a list of fun, free and family friendly suggestions for you all!
The St Kilda Penguins
Did you know there are penguins at St Kilda Pier? Well there are.
If you head down to the pier just before sunset you’ll see the Fairy penguins swimming out of the water to get to their nests in the rocks.
There’s even volunteers on site to answer any questions about the our little formal friends.
Story time
An oldy but a goody, particularly for younger kids – check out your local library for what story time and school holiday programs they are offering these holidays.
RAAF Museum
Make a day of it and head to the Point Cook RAAF Museum. They have a fabulous collection of displays, memorabilia and stories of Australia’s military air flight expeditions. And it’s 100% free!
Become a Junior Ranger
If your little ones love nature, animals and exploring the outdoors then check out the Junior Rangers program. They can participate in activities with a genuine park ranger, or even complete activities with friends and family.
McClelland Sculpture Park Gallery
This park in Langwarrin is an amazing mixture of nature and art. A great family outing that combines nature and even spotting some turtles and echidnas, with amazing artwork sculptures.
State Library of Victoria
The State Library offers a free program called Play Pod for kids under 8 years old that involves a variety of reading, creative and play activities.
St Kilda Adventure Playground
This one will have everyone ready for bed by the end of the day with a huge variety of equipment for both big and little kids to enjoy and explore. Lots of lawn space also means you can take a picnic and make a day of it.
